A Few Tears

Elli got her first round of shots on Wednesday, and so we've been laying low the past few days. She was such a good girl, only crying about five seconds for each shot! When they took us back to the room, she was smiling and watching the nurse... just trying to make a new friend like she always does. But when the needle went in, her face changed to a look of complete betrayal and terror. Oh, my heart!

The nurse warned me that she might be fussy or extra sleepy for the next few days, and may even run a slight temperature. Yesterday she seemed perfectly normal, so I thought we were in the clear, but today she's been a little under the weather.

One of the biggest clues to me was her tone of voice. I've mentioned Elli's favorite toy before, a stuffed animal octopus that hangs above her on her play mat. She loves her octopus and especially loves to talk with it. Usually her little voice has a cheerful, playful tone... lots of squeals and "goo's". Today, however, she's been complaining to it! I wish I had a video of her two different tones; I'm amazed by how distinct they are! She tells quite a dramatic story!

Needless to say, my to-do list got put aside today. The floors may not be vacuumed or mopped, the clean dishes may still be in the dishwasher, and my sewing project is not getting done. Of course I can't wait for her to be back to her normal smiles and fun, but I have to confess that I'm kind of enjoying the extra cuddle time I'm getting with my baby girl.
