Yard Work!!!

I don't believe I have ever paired the words 'yard work' with an exclamation point before now, but it's truly how we feel.  I'm sure we won't always be this excited about yard work, but after dreaming about having a backyard for so long, we were absolutely thrilled to begin to work on it!  Our yard is definitely in need of some tlc, and since we can't actually move in until some work has been done on the inside, we decided to dive right in this weekend.

Remember the pics of Elli and the dandelions?  Those were taken in our back yard, and as you can see, the mesquite tree in the background has already fallen over, but it needed to be taken out.  .

Don't be deceived by the feathery green leaves... that tree has vicious thorns!
Here's the before pic:

And after day 1:

I need to take another picture, because Daniel has done a lot more.  I promise I did help, but I am days away from delivering a baby, and I think that's a pretty good reason to take lots of breaks!  :)  There's still a ton of work to do, so I know I'll get my turn!

While Daniel and I were working on the tree, Elli was focusing on a different corner of our yard.  The former owner had a small raised garden area, which is now pretty much dirt. (Except for that large and healthy rosemary bush in the corner. Yum!)  So Elli got to work with her bucket and shovel and made a glorious mess.  I have never seen her dirtier or happier.
These pictures do not do it any justice... her bath water that night was filthy!
