Sleep Queries

So, you might assume a post about sleep problems would be referring to Caroline.  But no, she sleeps great.  Ten or eleven hours at night and transitioning easily to three naps a day.  No, its my two-year old who is completely throwing me with her sleeping patterns.  She used to so consistently wake up at 7 in the morning, and then nap from 1-3 in the afternoon.  Sometime around her second birthday, she began to kind of switch things up on me.  I thought at first it was due to the holidays and traveling, but they never really got back to normal.  Then daylight savings messed things up again, and then we had Caroline and moved not long after that.  I just sort of hoped things would even out and she would return to a predictable schedule.  But it just hasn't happened.  Eventually we want the girls to sleep in the same room, but I'm not sure how that's going to work when Elli's wake up time is so irregular - sometimes she's up at 5:30, sometimes she sleeps til 7 or so.   And she doesn't wake up happy if its before 7. Some days she takes a 3-hour nap; sometimes she won't take one at all.  We try to be very consistent with her bedtime, but even there - sometimes she falls right asleep and sometimes she plays in bed (or tries to get up) for a few hours.  Gah!

So, all you mommies out there, please help me out!  When did your kids transition from naps to a quiet time?  How long is a quiet times, and what are your rules? Do you have any ideas to help her wake up (happily) at a regular time every morning? Any other words of wisdom regarding sleep?

And now for some sweet pics of my girl, because despite her irregular sleeping patterns, she is super fun right now.  Yesterday we took some of her buddies on a "walk" around the house.  I tend to spend my time with her reading books or doing a craft project or singing and dancing, but I need to remember to imagine more with her, because she loved every minute of it!  As did I!  She is so. much. fun.

Ellie still has her nap time (Her 2nd birthday was in March) but often times for whatever reason can't or won't sleep - my rule has been (more for myself before I go get her) that she stays in there for 90 to 120 minutes in bed. At times, it is difficult if she starts crying or screaming for me, I go in and talk to her firmly about being quiet and resting but most of the time, she just lays there and talks or sings or plays with some of her stuffed animals we leave in the bed. Good luck though! It's so hard to figure this one out!!
