My vision for this year is to give Elli a good foundation for her early education. We are going to focus on the basics: phonics and math; but spend a lot of time learning and enjoying all kinds of other subjects. I hope to spend a lot of time exploring the outdoors, reading chapter books together, and taking advantage events and activities of our city.
Another huge goal I have for this year is to build relationships with some other homeschool families, specifically with girls Elli's age. In August we joined a coop that meets weekly; twice a month there are classes (we are just doing art this semester), and the other two weeks alternate between playgroup and field trips. Elli has already made a few little girlfriends, and she's always so excited to see them.

With the help of my mom and Cathy Duffy's recommendations, here's what I'm planning on using for curriculum:
The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading
by Jessie Wise and Sara Buffington
Because I've never taught reading before, I really wanted something that would help me to teach. This book actually has a script that you can follow word for word. In the beginning I used it a lot, but now that I'm a little more comfortable with the structure, I can ad lib a bit more.
Explode the Code
by Nancy Hall
This is the workbook portion of phonics. I'm a big fan of this so far, and Elli is too!
Primary Mathematics 1A
by Singapore Math
I decided to go ahead to the first grade math curriculum with Elli. Hopefully I don't regret it! I'm planning on taking our time, with the intent to cover the first half (1A) this year and moving on to 1B next year. So far she's been able to understand and master what we've learned.
Bede's History of ME
by Veritas Press
This is a little extra book I found that I"m so excited to do! I feel like it will be a great introduction to history. It has activities and projects to help students understand what history is, why it's important, and introducing them to a few different aspects of history (art, culture, etc).

Our chapter books so far have been Charlotte's Web and Farmer Boy.
